Marion Voters Asked to Renew Sales Tax

The summer heat is still in full effect but before you know it fall will be here. It will bring familiar things like leaves turning, locals sitting under "Friday Night Lights" to cheer for their hometown football teams, and the smell of smoke from chimneys.
This year in Marion County it will also bring a recurring, but not as familiar decision - whether or not to continue paying a 1 percent sales tax to support local government projects. Citizens will head to the polls on November 3 to make that decision.
It's not a "new" tax, but rather the proposed continuation of the existing "penny tax". The state requires local governments to have their citizens approve it every six years.
