Downtown Cusseta was the place to celebrate last Saturday evening. And community members celebrated a new "place" dedicated to them - Unity Park.
It was a celebration of community sparked by a native son's love of that community.
The spot across from the Chattahoochee County Courthouse on Broad Steet used to be a hub of commercial activity. Over the years, especially after the four-lane "bypass" was built on the edge of town, the businesses closed.
After returning to his hometown around 10 years ago, Walter Miller decided to change that. He purchased the property with an initial plan to restore the four buildings that in prior years housed a large grocery store, a lawyer's office, etc. However, upon closer inspection they were "too far gone".
