When a young man plants a tree, he isn't just improving the future for someone else, he is anchoring himself to a piece of land and establishing a living legacy - a commitment to the long term. He's acknowledging that the most valuable things in life require time, patience, and care.
Of course, longtime Buena Vista resident Rocky Wade probably wasn't thinking of any of those things back in 1956 or 1957 when his Ag teacher L.K. Moss grabbed him and a few fellow students and said, "Come on, let's plant these trees."
He was just happy to get out of the classroom for a while.
Now, however, when he looks at the massive oak trees, he "gets it" - around 70 years later.
Wade, now 85, was in the eighth or ninth grade when they planted the oak trees in front...
