The air was thick with the scent of popcorn, freshly cut grass, and anticipation for the first "Friday Night Lights" of the 2026 Marion County High football season. The Class A Eagles, looking to rewrite the narrative after a tough 1-9 campaign last year, stepped onto their home turf to host the much larger Class 4A Hardaway Hawks for a preseason scrimmage.
The Eagles have a different mindset this year, forged in the weight room and fueled by a fresh hunger. Head Coach Jeff Collins could feel it during warm-ups, noting the high energy and accountability pulsing through the squad. But nobody expected the game's ultimate plot twist: Mother Nature and a stubborn set of stadium lights would write the final chapter early.
